This is a animated data visualisation of the 21st century cost of life. I am interested in creating "data landscapes" using sound and animation. The numbers where taken from a much larger original data set that included historic costs as far back as ancient Egypt. The more shocking story in the data sets for me was the massive disparity in numbers just from the 21st Century. I used the American military death Gratuity as a kind of baseline to show how many lives can "fit" inside the cost of another. This is not intended as anti-American just an example of the massive disparity that still exists in the cost of life even in so called "modern times". All costs in dollars have been inflation adjusted.
